In Memoriam

In Loving Memory of Our Co-Founder Mac Torres

Mac Torres, along with his brother Sib Torres, worked in the Animation Business since their teenage years. Mac discovered his artistic talents at an early age. Even in grammar school fellow students would approach him for drawings where he happily obliged. By junior high school, Mac was featured in the public broadcasting station to display his artwork.

In High School, his work was featured in the local newspaper, where he caught the eye of Disney and Hanna-Barbera animator Ruben Apodaca. Right out of High School he was offered a job at 2 major Animation Studios, Filmation and Hanna-Barbera.

It was off to Hollywood for Mac and Sib. They started their careers at Hanna-Barbera at the peak of Saturday Morning children’s broadcasting. From the Flintstones to Scooby-Doo, if you grew up in the ’80s and watched Saturday morning cartoons then you’ve certainly seen Mac and Sib’s work.

Over the next 20 years, Mac and Sib’s careers crisscrossed throughout various studios. Eventually, Filmation stole Mac’s talents from Hanna-Barbera. Mac worked on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Black Star and many other Saturday morning favorites.

He would go on to Supervise the entire overseas studios for Murakami-Wolf Studios in Ireland. Mac and Sib would eventually team up again to work on Feature Animated movies for Walt Disney Studios. Together they worked on Major Motion Pictures, from Beauty and the Beast to Lion King to Aladdin to Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

After a stint together at Baer Animation and accomplishing everything, there was to do at the Major Studios, Mac and Sib decided to venture off on their own. And Orphan Films was born. Together they provided animation for major motion pictures, Space Jam; hit TV shows, Mad About You; major commercials, Owens-Corning; and several industrial videos.

Mac was the heart and soul of Orphan Films. It is our hope that through Mountainair Entertainment we can continue the dedication and quality of animation that Mac put into everything he did.

While his talents can never really be replaced we have gone through great effort to bring in some of the industry's top animators to move forward.  What can never be replaced is the love and support he provided for all of us.  Mac will always remain the “shooting star” of Mountainair Entertainment.

In the meantime enjoy some of Mac's artwork...

God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to
Be, so He put His arms
Around you and
Whispered, " Come to Me."

With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away,
And although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
